1. Driving licence
An important aspect of renting car process is the driving licence. You have to check whether yours is accepted in the country you want to visit.
Unless you live outside the EU, you don’t have a reason to worry. Driving licence is valid in each of the member states. Still, keep in mind that every country has its own laws.
In other words, I strongly recommend you to double-check whether your documents are fine so as not to get an unpleasant surprise. If you come to Bulgaria from another continent, you will need an international driving licence for certain.
Most companies for rental cars require you to have a driving licence for at least a year. However, some are more cautious and put a rule for having a driving licence for a minimum of 2 years.
Be prepared for this.
2. Vignettes and tolls
Well, vignettes and tolls are not particularly related to rental cars themselves but they are unaltered part of your journey.
Spend some quality time to make research for requires of the specific country.
For example, in Bulgaria we use vignettes. When you rent a car here you get it with a vignette. However, in case you decide to visit Greece, you will have to pay the relevant tolls.
Maybe now you are wondering where you can find information about all this stuff.
Don’t worry, of course, I am here to give some of mine tips and tricks.
Here is a reference to help you orient yourself in the European toll taxes and vignettes.
It can be rather confusing for sure, especially if you come from Asia or America. That’s why you need to choose Rent-a-car Company with employees who will be happy to assist you.
You can ask them for tax prices in neighbouring countries and specifications in crossing borders between them.
Don’t underestimate vignettes and tolls and consider this side of renting a car process as well.
3. Number of drivers
I have to warn you that some companies for rental cars in Bulgaria will charge you for an additional driver.
Not all operate this way though. Reading carefully the contract before signing it can save you some inconveniences as regards to additional drivers.
Nevertheless, experts in rent-a-car industry recommend using the extra of the second driver even if you have to pay for it.
Above all your safety is the highest priority during a trip and you don’t have to neglect it. It is better to have someone to change you behind the wheel when you feel tired.
The price may be dependable on driver`s age.
You can read more details here!
Don’t play it smart and try cheating. If you make a car crash and your name is not included in the contract as “additional driver” than all insurances become invalid.
The best decision is to choose a rental car from a company which won’t take you more money for the additional driver. If you insist on renting an automobile from a company that wants to pay for this service, send it a request to know the exact amount of money.
4. The “unimportant” details
It`s important when using car rental services to find exactly what kind of extras are included and how much they will cost you afterwards.
For instance, some clients prefer to refuse GPS system and use Google Maps app on their smartphones.
Others may need a baby seat or a ski rack. An amount that sounds incredibly low may not be as acceptable at all after calculating the total set of services.
Something that you undoubtedly need to consider is whether to rent an automatic or a manual car.
Automatic rental cars are easier to be driven but they are more expensive too.
Still, it is a great option for drivers without a lot of experience.
In case you already have found a company which services like using, ask the employees for a discount or a special offer.
They would be happy to have you as a loyal client and may offer you really good conditions.
